Wow! It's been forever since I have written! I am so sorry about that. Time has gotten away from me. I really cannot believe it is almost summer. Thank you all for your continued prayer and support even when I have done a bad job of keeping you informed. I have been here in the office most of the spring. We have hired a new manager and I’ve been traveling back and forth to train her. We’re also looking at some changes in our department for the fall so I’ve been helping prepare for those.
I just got back from my one spring break trip a couple of weeks ago. We took 260 students from Atlanta, GA to Matamoros, Mexico. It’s CRAZY! I helped mainly with transportation and logistics. Every morning I had to assign 36 small groups to their mode of transportation, their driver, and what coolers they needed to take out with them for
ministry. We ended up with 7 buses and 8 vans, after two of our vans broke down in the middle of the week; could have been worse. This group is big and crazy and they do max us out logistically and wear us out physically but they see some incredible ministry. This year, they built 18 little houses, but they really minister to and build relationships with the families. They lead VBS with between 50-100 kids in the morning and afternoon. They bring medical people who work in a clinic that sees about 80 people a day. This year, the group really had the opportunity to see a lot of salvation. They were working in a fairly new area; many people just move to the border and find a place to live and build “houses” there. When the group got there and started working and meeting people, they realized that the fields here were very white and got very excited and enthusiastic about it. It was great to hear all of the stories of how God led them to people that were ready to hear the gospel. God really did amazing things on this trip. It was awesome to be apart of that.
After a couple of weeks, I think I am recovered from that trip and gearing up for the summer. I am planning on serving on our New Orleans trips for the month of June. We have about 2,100 youth participants coming down between June and August this summer. My role will be mainly doing some public relations with all of these youth pastors that are coming down there. We have many new youth pastors coming with us and we would like a staff member on the ground to minister to them and make sure their needs and expectations are being met. In addition while I am down there, I will be leading one of my favorite groups the week of June 18th. I have been apart of their trip for the last 3 years. They are always fun! When I get home, I will be here for a couple of weeks and then I head out to Peru again, on the 12th of July. I really enjoyed the ministry and the people of Peru last year so I’m looking forward to that trip. Plus, it’s winter time in Peru during our summer...so it’s not HOT!!! Just a little perk! And they have Starbucks...remember?
This spring has been crazy. God has been so real in my life. I have really been seeking him and his direction in my life. I am loving my ministry with the college students at West Park. Over the past couple of months I have really seen it growing and seen God working in this group! It is awesome to be apart of it. My prayer is that over the next several months, I will have the opportunity to get more involved. God has really given me the desire to live down in the UT area and have my home open to minister during the day as many college students come and go to class. This is a work in progress and it changes daily. I really am seeking God and asking him for his direction. I ask you to join me in prayer for this and for clarity and availability. For this to happen and come together, his hands are going to have to be all over it! I was reading last week and God gave me this picture of himself:
“But don't rejoice just because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered as citizens of heaven." Then Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth
from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. "My Father has given me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." Then when they were alone, he turned to the disciples and said, "How privileged you are to see what you have seen. I tell you, many prophets and kings have longed to see and hear what you have seen and heard, but they could not." - John 10:20-24.
I love these verses. I can see a big smile come over Jesus’ face as he reveals this little secret or mystery to his disciples. A secret that many throughout the centuries have waited to hear. Yet, Jesus says, let’s not rejoice in our authority but let’s rejoice in our identity. How beautiful! What a picture to see how excited Jesus got about revealing that. I trust that Jesus. I trust that he has a mystery, a secret, for me for my future and he holds it tightly. It has been exciting to watch him reveal it to me one day at a time; I like to believe he is getting pretty excited about it too! Please join me as I seek him and his direction! I want him to be apart of this!
